How to Get Started with Facebook Ads

With over 800 million active users, Facebook has the capacity to reach more people than most other social channels in the world. Facebook ads, however, present a lot of options that may be overwhelming for new buyers. Meltwater is here to help! So, let’s begin with the basics:

  • Set Goals: Who do you want to reach and what is your budget? Setting goals and knowing your audience will help you to determine where and what your ads should be.
  • Manage: Knowing your options is key—are you a cost-per-click (CPC) or cost-per-impression (CPM) brand? Do you want to geo-target? Set a spending limit? All of these things are crucial and can make your ads very successful if you know how to optimize. Get the most bang for your buck!
  • Track: Check out Facebook’s reports and make informed decisions about your campaign. Do read up on 2011’s “Facebook Marketing Bible” and make sure you’ve got all bases covered.
  • Improve: There are tons of different types of ads. Whether you’re looking to improve ROI or just want more fans checking-in, there are tons of different types of ways to advertise, including the latest: sponsored stories. Watch the Sponsored Stories video below for more info and read more on Facebook Advertising resources or contact the sales team at Facebook with any questions.

For more information on Facebook ads, be sure to check out Facebook’s Online Guide . Facebook also offers webinars and a help center, all at your fingertips. Pretty soon you’ll be a savvy social media campaign manager! Remember, however, as my colleague Jeremy Brown says: “It’s not just about buying ads; it’s about selecting appropriate audience targets, writing good ad copy, analyzing data, testing, and making changes on a regular basis.”
