Stanford MBA students visit Meltwater non-profit, MEST
Guest blog post by Leslie Georgatos and Andrew Ow, MBA students at Stanford Graduate School of Business.
We are part of a group of thirty Stanford Graduate School of Business students who traveled to Nigeria and Ghana for a study trip. It was an eye-opening trip filled with impressive meetings with political figures such as the former president of Ghana, business leaders like Aliko Dangote, and cultural experiences like eating a home-cooked Nigerian meal. Out of all the amazing experiences we had, for many of us, visiting MEST (the Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology) was our favorite.
Some of us were surprised to hear that a startup incubator existed in Ghana. But after visiting, we realized the incredible students and teachers at MEST seemed like something right out of the Silicon Valley. Indeed, speaking to the founders… Read More

Meltwater Sydney Runs for a Cause: When Client Relations Transcends the Business Environment
As any Meltwater employee will attest, we are in the business of creating strong and caring relationships, both with our clients and our prospects. Offices around the world report success stories of Meltwater employees building relationships with clients that are so unique they transcend the business environment in which they grew to become, in many cases, lasting friendships.
In Australia, our Sydney Client Relations (CR) office has taken customer service to a whole new level, setting a high standard for what it means to care for your clients.
Spearheaded by MD Marcus Kjorling, CR Sydney will be participating in the 2012 Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon on this coming May 20th. Their goal is to fundraise $2,000 for one of their non-profit clients, Bravehearts, and generate awareness about the important social issue of child abuse.
Bravehearts is Australia’s only children’s charity holistically dedicated to the issue of child… Read More

The implication of today’s verdict in The UK Copyright Tribunal
In 2010, Meltwater and PRCA brought the Newspaper Licensing Association, a for-profit company owned by major UK newspapers, to court because we found their proposed licensing plan for monitoring online news unreasonable.
In today’s ruling, the UK Copyright Tribunal agreed to 7 out of our 9 complaints and slashed the NLA’s proposed license fees by 90 percent calculated over the next three years (Read our press release and my commentary for more information.)
This is good news for all UK companies that need online news monitoring and our estimate is that this verdict saves UK businesses more than £100 million over the next three years. Meltwater’s UK clients will see a saving of approximately £24 million over the same period.
From this perspective, Meltwater’s effort in fighting NLA’s proposed licensing scheme for online news has been worthwhile, but sadly today’s verdict is only a partial victory. Going… Read More
